Hanlon’s shoe store opens.

1930

Originally Edwards and a mail order store, it is operated by Edward Hanlon and located initially at the corner of Centre Street and Seaverns Avenue. It adopts its subsequent name and moves across the street to the corner of Centre Street and Burroughs Street in the 1940s. Customers include comedian Jimmy Durante. The company subsequently expands to include locations over much of eastern Massachusetts, although most have since closed.
